Forté

ditching the elitism of the ballet world, Forté creates an inclusive, judgment-free space for adult beginners to enjoy the artform.

the problem

Ballet is an antiquated and elitist art form with strict and outdated gender roles. It excludes people both overtly and covertly due to race, socioeconomic status, body type, age and more. For adults, the amateur ballet class landscape consists primarily of barre classes that take a fitness-first approach. What about those that appreciate dance as an artform and means of expression, not just as a means to sculpt and tone?

the solution

Forté ballet studios provide inclusive and beginner-first ballet classes aimed at adult amateurs, providing opportunities to take technique classes and to rehearse and perform choreography. The studio practices an anti-ballet school culture that doesn’t body shame, compare you to others, or make you feel like it’s not enough to simply enjoy dancing. Forté is taking down the outdated culture of ballet, one class at a time.

the concept: art in all forms

Music is the emotional undercurrent of ballet, and a nod to classical music felt essential for this brand. Forté became the undeniable choice for a name, as it is the dynamic marking for loud and strong performance in sheet music. The name is also an uplifting reminder that ballet can be anyone’s forté. Our studio's focus on the joy and artistry of dance over fitness and calorie counting also comes to life through the beauty, freedom, and revolutionary abstraction of expressionist painting. Broad and sweeping brush strokes evoke the creative and emotional outlet that dancing provides.

the ballet starter guide

The language of dance is complicated. And mostly in French. understanding the terms and foundational steps can seem really intimidating. That's where Forté comes in with an illustrated "Ballet Basics" guide.
